Reflection Twelve

Now that I am college I have always been one to feel that it is during this time of one’s life, that one should learn knowledge that works to broaden the horizon. Up until this past week, I was well read up on the events sand occurrences of the Holocaust, though through my reading of the assigned articles gave me some new insight of the event in our history. Though knowledgeable of that occurrence in history, and keeping true to honesty, the patterns of a Genocide and ethnic cleansing were subjects that I was not very knowledgeable of. Through my reading of these articles, I am not able to say that I hold a good foundational knowledge base of what create s and bring about such horrendous occurrences. Though reading these articles allowed me to learn a vast amount of information on both subjects, there is one aspect that I was able to conclude about the two; and such a conclusion if one that I will never forget.

Though, I learned that both types of killings hold characteristics particular to each, they are both a general form of mass killing by the ethnocentric of a culture. No matter the difference in reasoning behind the killings, they are both examples and occurrence that come about when an ethnocentric group takes control and out of fear and persuasion control the majority. I came to the conclusion that though such occurrences were done by different group for different reasons they only took one person to form a group; a group that would then work to demise another group of human life.

All in all, these articles are ones that proved to be very informative. Not only was I able to learn of the definitions for Ethnic Cleansings and Genocides but I was able to learn of three that shifted history and since have acted as eye openers to the rest of the world. Parallel to my newly gained knowledge, I was also able to conclude that though such atrocities have occurred in the past, whether recent of years ago, they are occurrence that happened and can happen again if we as a people do not work to educate the generations and work to stop the ethnocentric views of the world.
